Content Marketing

Content marketing creates and distributes valuable content to attract, engage, and convert target buyers instead of relying on direct advertising.

Content marketing is the practice of creating and distributing valuable, relevant content — blog posts, whitepapers, videos, podcasts, webinars, case studies — to attract and engage your target audience. Instead of interrupting buyers with ads, content marketing earns their attention by being genuinely useful.

Content marketing matters in GTM operations because it’s the foundation of inbound demand generation. Well-crafted content drives organic search traffic, nurtures prospects through the buyer journey, supports sales conversations with credible resources, and builds the brand awareness that makes every other GTM channel more effective. Companies that invest in content marketing typically see compounding returns as their content library grows.

The operational reality of content marketing: it’s a slow-burn channel. A blog post published today might not rank on Google for 3-6 months. A content library needs 50-100 quality pieces before it generates meaningful organic traffic. Teams that expect content marketing to produce leads in week one will be disappointed. Teams that invest consistently for 6-12 months build an asset that generates pipeline for years.

Effective B2B content marketing requires a clear content strategy tied to buyer personas, funnel stages, and SEO keywords. Top-of-funnel content (educational articles, industry trends) drives awareness. Middle-of-funnel content (comparison guides, use case deep-dives) helps evaluation. Bottom-of-funnel content (case studies, ROI calculators) supports purchase decisions.

The measurement challenge is attribution. Content marketing influences deals across long, multi-touch buyer journeys. Track both direct attribution (someone read a blog post and then requested a demo) and influenced attribution (content was consumed during an active deal cycle). Inbound marketing helps you build and manage a content program that consistently generates demand.
